Integrative Therapies
South Shore Hospital offers our patients integrated therapies to assist with their care and comfort. Patients may request therapeutic massage or Reiki to help healing or to relieve stress.
Massage and Reiki services are available for patients. Appointments are available upon request. To schedule an appointment, please ask your nurse.
Services are offered at no charge to patients. The Integrated Therapies Program is supported through private donations and grants.
Therapeutic Massage
Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissue structures of the body. It has many benefits, such as reduction of pain and swelling, and increased relation and circulation.
Massage therapy for hospital patients is gentle and based on the patients' medical and physical status.

Massage therapist are certified by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage an Body Work. They generally train for a minimum of 500 hours.
Reiki
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on relaxation technique to help patients feel calmer and more comfortable. Its is an ancient healing technique used for relaxation and stress reduction.
Reiki promotes healing by stimulating the immune system and can help to relieve physical and emotional symptoms.
Reiki is safe, non-invasive and can be administered to people of all ages. The practitioner can improve how "life force energy" flows through the energy pathways of the body.
Reiki treatment has been found effective in helping every known illness. It may be used in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relive side-effects.
