Ambulatory Care Center

South Shore Hospital's ambulatory care center sees thousands of patients annually who need chemotherapy, injections, infusions, transfusions and vaccines. A physician's referral is required. Please call 781-340-8690 for more information.

Arthritis

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Center at South Shore Hospital comprehensively treats arthritis to help you achieve your best level of functioning. The arthritis program teaches you how to increase strength, flexibility, mobility and endurance, how to cope with pain, and also provides patient/family education. Asthma

The Asthma Center at South Shore Hospital is an outpatient program to help people successfully cope with a chronic asthma condition. Participants in our programs receive educational and other support to help them sleep more restfully, reduce doctors and
hospital visits, achieve more normal lung function, and resume work, school, sporting,

Bone Densitometry

South Shore Hospital's Stetson Center offers bone densitometry services in a private, comfortable and contemporary facility staffed exclusively by women technologists. A written order must be obtained from your physician specifying the need for this procedure prior to obtaining services. Please call 781-682-4536 for more information.

Breast Care Center

South Shore Hospital's Breast Care Center is offered in affiliation with Brigham & Women's Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Our Center provides advanced care to those who have already been diagnosed with a breast condition. A physician referral is required to become a Breast Care Center patient. Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Rehabilitation program for those who have experienced a cardiac event or those with heart disease. This four-phase program includes recovery plan, education, lifestyle modifications, and gradual integration of exercise maintenance.  It is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).  Please call 781-340-8824 for more information.

Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Clinic

Congestive heart failure affects 4.7 million Americans, with 400,00 new cases diagnosed each year. Our CHF Clinic is a comprehensive approach to the treatment of heart failure, provided in an alternative outpatient setting. The nursing staff of the CHF Clinic works in collaboration with your primary care physician to provide expert clinical care. The clinic is overseen by a board-certified cardiologist on staff at South Shore Hospital. The CHF Clinic offers intensive patient/family education as well as monitoring of symptoms of worsening heart failure. Community Pool Exercise Programs

The Outpatient Rehabilitation Center offers pool programs for South Shore residents with a variety of medical conditions who want to keep fit and feel better. Classes for Parkinson's, arthritis, Bosom Buddies, and senior conditioning programs are offered regularly.

Diabetes Center

Our outpatient diabetes center provides comprehensive education and information. Based on American Diabetes Association standards, this program provides diabetics with comprehensive education about how to treat the disease with a focus on keeping well, as well as managing diabetes during periods of illness. Infertility Program

South Shore Hospital offers a comprehensive reproductive endocrinology program in association with Brigham and Women's Hospital.

The program is staffed by reproductive endocrinologists, physicians specializing in infertility issues, who are on the medical staff at both Shore Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

The program addresses many gynecologic and reproductive problems, including diagnosis and treatment for infertility, pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, uterine fibroids, recurrent miscarriage, endometriosis, hormonal abnormalities, abnormal absence of menstrual periods, and problems associated with menopause.

Laboratory Services

Our clinical laboratory services department, accredited by the College of American Pathologists, provides diagnostic testing to inpatients and outpatients, encompassing our emergency department, ambulatory care, day surgery, the Nevin Building, and 780 Main Street.  In fiscal year 2007, the department performed approximately 80,000 venipunctures and performed approximately two million laboratory tests.  The department also supports
the South Shore Visiting Nurse Association by providing outreach phlebotomy services.

Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center

South Shore Hospital's Maternal-Fetal Medicine Center assists women whose pregnancies may be affected by their age, a chronic health condition, the likelihood of multiple births, or other medical issues. Please call 781-340-8430 for more information.

Mammography Center

Mammograms, in conjunction with breast examinations by a health professional and monthly breast self-exams, are the best means of detecting breast disease in its earliest stages.
South Shore Hospital's Stetson Center offers mammography services in a private, comfortable, and contemporary facility staffed exclusively by women technologists. Each exam is interpreted by two board-certified South Shore Hospital radiologists, and instructions on breast self-exam are also provided. The program is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology and licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and the FDA. Please call 781- 682-4536 for more information.

Nutrition Education Program

South Shore Hospital offers individual medical nutrition counseling for a variety of diagnoses, including diabetes, cancer, kidney disease, GI disorders, obesity (pediatric and adult), sports nutrition, and eating disorders. Outpatient Rehabilitation Center

South Shore Hospital's outpatient rehabilitation center helps you recuperate from illness, injury, and diseases. The center's physiatrists and therapists rehabilitate those with complex disabling diseases such as cancer, stroke, and spinal cord injury, and progressive neurologic disorders like multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's. We an also help people with arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, breast cancer, diabetes, and incontinence. We offer a joint replacement education program for those patients anticipating knee or hip replacement surgery. Community programs such as pre- and postnatal exercise, senior and teen conditioning programs, and sports conditioning are also offered. Unique to our center are two aquatic therapy pools, which feature a ramp so patients may maneuver themselves in and out of the water and maintain their independence. Pain Management Center

If you are living with chronic pain due to back injury, muscle strain or illness such as arthritis, cancer or reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), South Shore Hospital has a program to help. Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Our program combines therapeutic exercise, education, and nutrition counseling for those living with emphysema, chronic bronchitis, asthma, cystic fibrosis, or other chronic lung conditions. Center for Wound Care and Hyberbaric Medicine

The South Shore Hospital Center for Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine focuses on treating the most difficult, non-healing wounds. Our expert wound care staff is highly skilled in the care of difficult, non-healing wounds. They are specially trained in wound management and hyperbaric treatment and are dedicated to remaining abreast of the latest advances in the field.
