Our Care

We understand that having an infant admitted to our NICU may be unexpected. Our goal is to assure that parents are fully involved and informed about their newborn's health and well-being. Our doctors and nurses believe that by fully explaining to you what is being done to care for your infant, that we will lessen your anxiety. We encourage you to be involved in the care of your infant and to ask questions. Every effort is made to explain and answer questions that you may have regarding your baby's care. We are committed to supporting, informing and educating you throughout your baby's stay in the NICU.

Few expectant parents anticipate their infant will need more than routine medical care.
There are situations, however, when the newborn infant may have symptoms which need special attention.

Our NICU is staffed 24 hours a day by newborn specialists (neonatologists). If the need should arise your doctor will contact the neonatologist to evaluate and care for your infant.

The day begins with medical rounds. This is a time when your baby's nurse, doctor, nurse practitioner, and nutritionist review medical issues and develop a medical treatment plan.
Your infant will also be screened by a physical therapist. Parents are considered part of the team and if interested may join in medical rounds.

Every family receives support from our social workers, who are knowledgeable and familiar with the special issues that arise when infants are admitted to our NICU. Families will also receive assistance in planning for discharge.

Specialists such as surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists and others may be contacted or involved in the care of your infant if necessary.
