The Richard and Joann Aubut Critical Care Unit

An accident. A stroke. An infection. A heart attack. At times like these, access to high-quality critical care services isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

The Richard and Joann Aubut Critical Care Unit (CCU) at South Shore Hospital allows our highly-skilled team of caregivers to better meet the South Shore’s growing need for local access to advanced critical care services for patients with significant injuries, complex illnesses, or for those who are recovering from major surgery.

South Shore Hospital has developed a Critical Care program, led by an interdisciplinary team who care for both patients and their families.

Our Critical Care team includes:

  • Board-certified critical care intensivists
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Physician assistants
  • Critical care nurses who have been recognized nationally with the prestigious Beacon Award for Excellence
  • Respiratory therapists
  • Dietitians
  • Pharmacists
  • Social workers
  • Case managers
  • Palliative care nurses
  • Pastoral care

The Aubut CCU is designed to create a healing environment for patients and an efficient, collaborative workplace for caregivers. The unit features 24 spacious private rooms that accommodate the sophisticated technology required to save and sustain lives—as well as architectural elements that are proven to support healing, such as windows that allow natural light in each room. The Aubut CCU also features comfortable spaces for family members so they can stay close to their loved ones during a stressful time.

The Aubut CCU is part of a $62 million construction project that also involves renovating South Shore Hospital’s former critical care area on the 6th floor of the Pratt Building into a 24-bed patient care unit. Renovations will begin in late Fall 2017 and are scheduled for completion in late 2018.

Mission Critical: The Campaign for Our 2nd Century

Our Critical Care Unit construction is in large part possible because of donations from our community of supporters. Click to learn more about our Mission Critical Campaign—the largest and most ambitious in our history—and how you can help support exceptional health care on the South Shore.
