Physician Opportunities at South Shore Hospital

More patients choose South Shore Hospital and its physicians than any other hospital in our region.

With a growing community and an increasing need for primary care, specialty and surgical physicians, South Shore Hospital is devoted to assuring that there are enough physicians to meet the needs of the people we serve.

Growing to Meet Community Needs

As the demand for our services continues to grow, we are expanding our surgical, maternity, emergency and oncology programs.

South Shore Hospital is the region’s leading maternity care provider. As our popularity has grown, so has our need to enlarge our service. Our expanded program features 54 large, all private rooms, 65 well-baby bassinets, 4 continuing care bassinets for infants requiring additional observation and nursing care, a 10-bassinet Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, six antepartum beds, 15 labor/delivery/recovery rooms, overnight rooms for parents to stay near their Special Care babies, and the latest technology and equipment.

South Shore Hospital surgeons performed 15,759 surgeries last year alone. Our surgery expansion includes 14 all-new operating rooms, designed and equipped for complex cases. These suites include the latest technologies, and two of the rooms are 700 square feet — large enough to accommodate cardiac surgery in the future.

With 76,820 emergency department visits per year, South Shore Hospital's emergency department has become a regional emergency center. To meet this growing need, our expansion plans call for more private rooms with the newest patient-monitoring and diagnostic equipment.

South Shore Hospital is working with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital to open an outpatient Cancer Center in South Weymouth that will usher in a new level of cancer care for the people of the region. The Center is expected to welcome its first patients in 2009.
