South Shore Hospital Earns
National Recognition for Nursing Excellence

ANCC Magnet Recognition

It is one of the highest levels of national recognition a hospital can achieve. South Shore Hospital has achieved Magnet® recognition for excellence in nursing services by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®.

South Shore Hospital is now part of the exclusive “five percent club” — only five percent of all hospitals nationwide have achieved Magnet recognition. South Shore Hospital is only the seventh Massachusetts hospital to receive Magnet recognition, and is currently the only Magnet hospital in Southeastern Massachusetts. South Shore Hospital’s Magnet status is valid through 2013.

“Magnet recognition is a tremendous achievement for South Shore Hospital,” said Richard H. Aubut, president and chief executive officer. “It recognizes the outstanding work our nurses do each day in caring for their patients and each other, and reflects the commitment of our entire staff to serve as a team, providing the highest quality care possible for the people of our community.”

The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health care organizations that demonstrate excellence in nursing practice and adherence to national standards for the organization and delivery of nursing services.  Applicants undergo a rigorous evaluation that includes extensive interviews and a review of nursing services.  At South Shore Hospital, every aspect of nursing was examined, from inpatient nursing to clinical professional development to emergency nursing to the nursing services provided by the home care division. “I am so proud of all of our nurses. Each one had a hand in achieving Magnet status and each one continues to fulfill South Shore Hospital’s mission of healing, caring and comforting,” said Tim Quigley, RN, MBA, vice president/chief nursing officer.

Research shows there are clear benefits to hospitals that are awarded Magnet status and to the communities they serve:
